Seminar by Dr. Neeraj Sinha on 19th January, 2015 at 3.00 p.m.Title: Dynamic Nuclear Polarization Enhanced Solid State – NMR Spectroscopy of BonesAbstract: NMR signal intensity is inherently weak compared to other forms of spectroscopy. In corporation of high field NMR magnets and cryogenically cooled NMR probe overcome this limitation to a large extent. Another interesting approach for increasing NMR signal intensity was proposed in 60’s which incorporates transfer of polarizations from electrons to nuclear spins. This is achieved by irradiating NMR samples with micro-wave irradiations and known as Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP). Though the fundamental understanding of DNP was known for long time, much of the technical developments took place in last ten years. In this talk, I will give basic introduction to DNP and its working principles. I will also present results of our study on DNP enhanced solid state NMR study of bones.
Brain Storming Session on Scientific Aspects of Yoga and Meditation
To evolve a national level strategy to pursue such activities in the country, we have decided to organize a national level brain storming session on March 04, 2015 at the Centre of Biomedical Research, Lucknow. There will be discussions on the topic among the internationally reputed scientists from premier institutions involved in research and education. The session will be enriched with their views and vast experiences in that particular field and enhance the overall scientific as well as societal interest. The recommendations to pursue such research activities, especially, in biomedical and clinical context may then be forwarded to appropriate authorities to launch such a programme on June 21, 2015, the International Yoga day.
